First competition this weekend!
Except it’s not. We compete at every class. We compete against the other people – to be faster, stronger. Against the people we think we can’t beat, against the people we think we should. We compete against ourselves – to be faster then last time, stronger, to push ourselves, to find out what we’re capable of. To show how good we can be, how far we’ve come. To be...

So it’s half-term, still and have now been off for 5 days and a little bit now. I’ve spent 3 lovely days with Joey and Kemela seeing Manchester, sometimes it nice to be reminded of where you live isn’t it? To take people to the places you feel like they should see and to see them again through a new set of eyes. Then Tuesday was getting some planning done (more today!) before a lovely evening with...

Our heart will always follow our greatest investments – whether it be our car, our house, our career, or our investment portfolio. We literally tie our hearts to certain things by the sheer amount of investment we put into them. And too many of us are tying our hearts to the wrong things. We are devoting our lives and tying our hearts to material possessions that will never last or bring us...

The drive’s enormous cache–32MB of solid-state RAM–virtually eliminates skipping; shaking the iPod vigorously and even banging it against things didn’t interrupt smooth play.

The iPod is 10 years old today. This snippet from the original article made me smile. I can still remember having a portable CD player with ‘ESP’, electronic shock protection to stop it skipping – though...
Worked on my overhead squat. Rach helped me with some technique and 40kg felt fine. I am pleased by this.
Then we did… (Did the cluster at 17.5kg)
15 burpee box jumps (24?/20?) 15 dumbell clusters (20kg/10kg) 30 sit ups 12 burpee box jumps (24?/20?) 12 dumbell clusters (20kg/10kg) 24 sit ups 9 burpee box jumps (24?/20?) 9 dumbell clusters (20kg/10kg) 18 sit ups

Lifting the 50kg atlas stone
Failing to jump on atlas stone box, scraping my shins
Handstand push up
Attempted a 1 handed hand stand.
More skipping
Some 10kg weighted pull ups

We do not choose to be born. We do not choose our parents. We do not choose our historical epoch, or the country of our birth, or the immediate circumstances of our upbringing. We do not, most of us, choose to die; nor do we choose the time or conditions of our death. But within all this realm of choicelessness, we do choose how we shall live: with purpose or adrift, with joy or with...

Could you believe this? Why wouldn’t you?
The irony of this week has been that mentally I’ve felt stronger, less anxious, more capable, more confident then I’ve ever felt before but that my body has been subdued somewhat by a virus that is going around school.
I think that before, it’s felt like things, predominantly exercise, have been a distraction. I do this because I need to stop thinking about this. Which works, I don’t doubt about...

Interruption-free space is sacred. Yet, in the digital era we live in, we are losing hold of the few sacred spaces that remain untouched by email, the internet, people, and other forms of distraction.
However, despite the incredible power and potential of sacred spaces, they are quickly becoming extinct. We are depriving ourselves of every opportunity for disconnection. And our imaginations...

Five rounds for time of: 22 Kettlebell swings, 24kg 22 Box jump, 24 inch box Run 400 meters 22 Burpees 22 Wall ball shots, 10kg
43:40.
Today was a chance to pick your own ‘hero’ WOD. Ones that a little harder, a little tougher. Created in honour of soldiers who have died.
During the first round when my legs hurt during the run I knew it would be tough but worked through it and got it...
We have more time then we realise, really.
Sometimes it’s nice to not know the time and instead just go with how we’re feeing as a guide.
The biggest mistake you can make in life is to do something just for the money. It is one of the biggest sadnesses of man. People living for the weekend are people who are dead 5 days a week. Because they are doing the thing they don’t love to earn money so they can do the thing they do love on the weekend. They are alive two days a week.
Don’t do it. You can always make more money, you can’t...

A leisurely coffee with an old work colleague, some good news (the children I taught last year are getting on well(!)), coffee, the concise crossword, relaxing and catching up.
A browse in one those shops that has all sorts of things (started eyeing up some Xmas gifts), bought a small gift for K.
Saw a range of notebooks but ones that had a purpose, a travel one and suddenly I want to start...

Right now. Crossfit is important. Really important. It, along with meditating, balances me out, gives me some downtime, some me-time. It means, I get to stare at a barbell and contemplate lifting it above my head 1 more time. It means I improve.
If it means I have to stay up late marking or planning because I left work at 5:20, then so be it.
Right now, it’s non-negotiable.
Somethings should be...
I quite often think – “I can’t wait for the weekend (some time off, or just some time in the near future), then I’ll be able to do all those things I can’t do now.”
Then the weekend comes and I don’t have enough time and then it’s Monday again and I have this thought…
Rinse repeat.
I hereby promise to try and fight that thought, to instead just get started doing it. Right now.

I came to a pleasing revelation about my past issues.
I quite like the beginning of Jamie Woon’s album Mirrorwriting – in a background, easy listening, dub type of way.
After eating all the flapjacks yesterday I am going sugar free for the week. It’s a shame I forgot about the Lindt 90% cocoa chocolate I have in my room.
Cauliflower rice, sounds disgusting but really isn’t. True story.

So I spent more this week then I’ve ever spent on food. After I had, I had a bit of a stress about it. You know what though, I’ve eaten well, had plenty of leftovers for lunch and it’s all been lovely and delicious. Plenty of meat and veg and fish and frankly it was worth every penny. A roast chicken that was enough for three meals, salmon fillets that just go in the oven (I’m liking garlic and...
